  • 2016 CA Sri Lanka-SAFA-IFAC Regional SMP Forum

    The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), together with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), have organized a regional SMP Forum to help SMPs leverage future growth opportunities for small- and medium-sized entities (SMEs) and accounting practices (SMPs).

    When/Where? The CA Sri Lanka-IFAC-SAFA Regional SMP Forum is scheduled to be held on January 26, 2016, at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. 

    What? An international and regional line-up of subject matter experts will steer the forum and share important insights on pertinent areas related to the development and growth of SMPs both in Sri Lanka as well as other parts of the South Asian region.

    The international line-up of speakers includes:

    • Mr. Giancarlo Attolini, Chair, IFAC SMP Committee
    • Mr. Bodo Richardt, President of the European Federation of Accountants and Auditors for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (EFAA), and
    • Mr. Manoj Fadnis, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Deputy President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA)

    These speakers will be complemented by a host of other foreign and local speakers and facilitators from across the globe, including South Asia.

    Who Should Attend? The forum is open to accounting practitioners, as well as other professionals, who work directly or indirectly with SMP/SME affairs. 

    Why? The event will help participants understand how to build capacity, overcome current challenges, and seize future opportunities, as well as how to grow their practices through review, compilation, and agreed-upon procedures engagements, among other important areas relevant to the sector and its development.

  • 2015 MIA-IFAC Regional SMP Forum

    MIA-IFAC Regional SMP Forum

    IFAC supported the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the ASEAN Federation of Accountants in a Regional Small- and Medium-Sized Practice (SMP) Forum in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia, on November 18, 2015. The agenda featured a number of IFAC SMP Committee Members. The event focused on the current challenges facing SMPs and small- and medium-sized entities (SMEs), as well as opportunities for the future.

     

    IFAC SMP Committee member & Implementation Guidance Task Force Chair Dawn McGeachy introduced the uses and benefits of review, compilation, and agreed-upon procedures engagements for SMPs.



    In the panel discussion moderated by IFAC SMP Committee member Katharine Bagshaw, MIA AASB Chair Lee Tuck Heng and Crowe Horwath Partner James Chan introduced the New Auditor’s Report and its key features, with an elaboration on Key Audit Matters (KAM).



    In another panel discussion moderated by IFAC Director, Global Accountancy Profession Support Paul Thompson, IFAC SMP Committee members Mats Olsson and Robyn Erskine, and ACCA Head of Policy Asia Pacific Chiew Chun Wee, shared highlights from the 2014 IFAC Global SMP Survey with an in-depth look into the responses from SMPs in Asia. Based on insights from the survey, they advised on how SMPs can embrace challenges and opportunities, especially those stemming from technology, to thrive in today’s marketplace.

  • IFAC Global SMP Survey: 2014 Results

    The 2014 IFAC Global SMP Survey asked practitioners operating in small- and medium-sized practices (SMPs) a number of questions about the challenges they face, the market factors and technologies most likely to affect them in the future, the consulting services they provide, and their performance, both in 2014 and projected for the year ahead. In addition, respondents were asked about their small- and medium-sized entity (SME) clients, including questions around the challenges they face, exposure to financial crimes, access to finance, and the extent of their international operations.
